Vintage Steel Hand Lantern with Telescopic Chimney – Kerosene – c. 1930s
This steel hand lantern most likely dates from the 1930s. The maker is unknown.
The glass is clear. At the front there is a small door that is slightly bowed.
At the back are two handles that are fixed in place.
The chimney can be extended and retracted.
The wick holder is operated from the side with a small clip. The wick is on the wide side for this type of lantern, so on kerosene the flame burns rather strong; the lantern is therefore better suited as a decorative piece than for actual use.
Condition is well-worn, with a rusty look. A loop is missing from the handle. The lantern is in working order, but heavy use is not recommended.
Measurements:
Height: 19 cm (7.5 in), excluding handle
Width: 8 cm (3.1 in)
A hand lantern with a clear history, best suited as a decorative piece.
