Below you'll find historical information about the makers of oil lamps and hurricane lanterns: when they were founded, what they produced, and how their models changed over time. Part of it comes from my own research, part from research by fellow collectors, with sources credited throughout.
I've been doing this research for a long time. It helps enormously with dating a lamp from its markings or from small differences between models, but it also changes how you look at them. A lamp that is 50 to 150 years old is not just an old object — there is a manufacturer behind it, and people with ideas, innovations and inventions.
