Terms of service
Terms of Service
Welcome to Rareoillamps.com / de Lampenman. We sell antique and vintage oil lamps and hurricane lanterns — objects that have already lived a long life before they reach you. The terms below explain how we work, so that you know what to expect from us and what we expect from you.
1. Who we are

2. These terms
These terms apply to every order placed through this website. By completing an order you confirm that you have read and accepted them. We may update these terms from time to time; the version published at the moment you place your order is the one that applies to it.
3. Ordering
A purchase agreement is concluded once we have confirmed your order by email. We reserve the right to decline an order — for example if an item turns out to be no longer available, or if a price or description contained an obvious error. If we do, you will hear from us promptly and any payment will be refunded in full.
Each lamp is a single, unique item. Once it is sold, it is gone.
4. Prices and payment
Prices are displayed in the currency of the country you are shopping from, converted from our base price at the current exchange rate. The currency and the exact amount charged are shown again at checkout before you confirm your order. Prices include VAT where applicable.
Payment is made at the time of ordering through the payment methods offered at checkout. Orders shipped outside the EU may be subject to import duties and local taxes, which are payable by the buyer and are not included in our prices. Your bank or card issuer may apply its own conversion or foreign transaction fees, over which we have no influence.
5. Condition of our items
Our lamps are antique and vintage. Age shows, and in our view that is part of their appeal: patina, small dents, hairline marks in the glass, old repairs and traces of use are to be expected rather than regretted. We describe the condition of every item as accurately as we can and photograph what we describe. If something in the condition is significant — a crack, a replaced part, a missing element — we say so in the listing.
Unless the description states otherwise, our lamps are sold as decorative objects. If you intend to burn one, check it carefully: burners, wicks and fuel systems that are a century old need attention before they are used, especially when they made a long journey to arrive, and any use is at your own risk.
6. Shipping
We pack each lamp ourselves, carefully, and ship worldwide. Delivery times shown at checkout are estimates provided by the carrier and are not guaranteed. Risk of loss or damage passes to you once the parcel has been delivered to the address you provided.
If your parcel arrives damaged, keep the packaging and send us photographs of both the box and the item within 14 days — this allows us to help you quickly and to file a claim with the carrier.
7. Returns
You may return your order within 14 days of receiving it. Our full return and refund policy is set out separately on this website and forms part of these terms.
8. Intellectual property
The photographs, descriptions and research published on this website are our own work. You are welcome to link to our pages. Reproducing our images or texts elsewhere — including on marketplaces and in other shops' listings — requires our written permission.
9. Liability
We are liable for damage caused by our own failure to meet our obligations, up to the amount you paid for the order concerned. We are not liable for damage arising from the use of an antique lamp as a burning lamp, or from repairs, conversions or modifications carried out after delivery. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer.
10. Applicable law and disputes
Dutch law applies to these terms and to every agreement concluded under them. If you are a consumer resident in another EU country, you retain the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence.
If something goes wrong, write to us first at contact@rareoillamps.com — most matters are settled with a single email. Consumers in the EU may also submit a dispute through the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.
