Vintage Royalux Hurricane Lantern by SIF, France 1950s – Globe Lift via Handle, 15 mm Wick, Wire Guard
This Royalux hurricane lantern was made by Société Industrielle de Ferblanterie (SIF) in the 1950s, and it is a special hurricane lantern.
First of all, there is the globe lift: by folding over the carrying handle, you lift the glass up. The patent for this was filed in 1949, at almost the same time as the other handle-operated globe-lift hurricane lantern, made by ASA.
Secondly, this hurricane lantern has a 15 mm wick, so it gives much more light than comparable hurricane lanterns of this size from other makers.
On top of that, it also has a wire guard to protect the glass.
All in all a very beautiful and practical lamp, and my favourite to take along on holiday.
The top is marked Royalux, with a much smaller BTE sgdg, Made in France next to it.
Height 27 cm.
