Vintage Feuerhand 276 Bundeswehr Hurricane Lantern Set in Metal Case – NOS, Two Coloured Spare Glasses, Manual
A very fine set consisting of a hurricane lantern in an army-green metal case, with two coloured spare glasses, made by Feuerhand, model 276. This lantern was mainly used by the army, as an oil lamp but also as a signal lamp. New Old Stock, so unused.
What makes it particularly special is that the original instruction manual is still included.
Both the lantern and the case bear the identification number Versorg 6260-12-120-5947.
"Versorg." stands for Versorgungsnummer, the supply number of the Bundeswehr (German armed forces). It is a NATO Stock Number (NSN), made up as follows:
6260: the supply class. 6260 means "Nonelectrical Lighting Fixtures", i.e. non-electric lighting such as oil lamps and hurricane lanterns.
12: the country code. 12 is Germany, the country that registered the item in the NATO system.
120-5947: the serial number of this specific item.
The case is also marked: Laterne-, Petroleum, 250mm hoch mit Zubehör (lantern, paraffin, 250 mm high, with accessories).
Naturally it still shows signs of the passage of time, but that also gives the lantern its character.
A fine addition to a collection, but also still excellent for use as lighting in the home, in the garden or on holiday.
The Feuerhand logo is still clearly visible on all three glasses.
Height (excluding handle and chimney ring): 26 cm
Text on fount: Feuerhand; *276* W. Germany; Baby Special
Date of manufacture: Probably 1960
Glass: Marked
Remarks:
The lantern shows some signs of handling from being taken in and out of the case.
