Beautiful French Hurricane Lantern, the Luciole by French Maker ALG, Guillouard – "Special 100th Anniversary Edition"
An orange Luciole hurricane lantern by the French maker ALG, Guillouard, from the special 100th anniversary edition.
In 2011 Guillouard celebrated its 100th anniversary. To mark the occasion, a special limited version of the Luciole was released in orange; reportedly 1,000 of them were produced.
I can't be certain whether they brought out an orange version again in the years after, but I don't expect so.
The Luciole has been on the market since the 1960s. Until 2018 it was produced in Nantes, France; after that the French factory closed, and the current Guillouard is produced in Slovakia.
The colour doesn't come across entirely accurately in the photos; the second photo is closest to the real thing.
Naturally it still shows the marks of time, but that also gives the lantern its character.
A fine addition to a collection, but also still excellent for use as lighting in the house, in the garden or on holiday.
NOS, New Old Stock, so unused.
Height: 30 cm (11.8 in)
Unmarked globe, but with the lugs.
