Rare Antique Railway Lantern – Luchaire Paris – French Railways (Nord)
Antique railway hand lantern by Luchaire Paris, with a locking mechanism for the oil reservoir. An old example, with a combination of black metal, brass, and copper.
Used by the French Railways; several markings confirm its origin. The front reads "Nord 9586", with additional Nord markings on the rear plate. The back carries the manufacturer's stamp: Luchaire Paris.
One notable feature is the square rear lock — turning it allows the oil reservoir to be removed. The original key is missing, but the mechanism can still be opened with a small tool such as pliers.
These lanterns were used as hand lamps on and around the railway, fitted with a reinforced top handle for heavy-duty use. Suitable as a decorative piece, or for a railway or lantern collection.
