Vintage French hurricane lantern from A.L. Guillouard (ALG), Nantes, with a protective signal hood and red-painted glass, originally used as a signal lantern for railways or roads. The hood ensures the light is visible from only one side. Similar lanterns were often marked SNCF for the French railways.
The glass retains most of its original red paint, chipped in places, left as is for authenticity. Estimated production: 1960s–1970s.
Note: the glass-lift holder doesn't stay in a fixed position, so two hands are needed to light the lantern.
Shows natural signs of age.
Suitable for a collection, or for lighting at home, in the garden, or camping.
