Vintage French ALG Hurricane Lantern – Signal Lantern with Red Glass Shield – Guillouard Nantes
Vintage ALG hurricane lantern, made by A.L. Guillouard in Nantes, France, with a protective metal hood and a glass window coated in red paint, most of which is still intact. These lanterns were commonly used along railways and roads as signal lanterns, the hood ensuring the light was visible from only one direction. Similar models are sometimes found marked SNCF, referring to the French railways.
Fitted with red-coloured glass. The glass is damaged but has been left in place for originality. Likely dates from the 1960s or 1970s.
Shows signs of wear, as expected for a lantern of this age. Suitable for a collection of hurricane lanterns or railway memorabilia, or as lighting at home, in the garden, or on holiday.
