Rare oil-and-candle trench lamp, marked Weltlaterne, produced by J. Schwarz & Co. of Berlin, dating from around 1910–1920. Complete and mechanically functional.

The chimney can be extended and retracted. One of the small side doors can be secured with a sliding latch, and the glass can also be locked into place. The lantern originally had a top handle; two side handles are still present. The back is marked with the manufacturer's name and "Weltlaterne".

As with other trench lanterns, the oil reservoir can be removed, revealing a clamp beneath it for holding a candle. The small cap stored in the left clasp seals the oil tank when switching to candle mode. Note: the spring mechanism for the candle no longer works properly.

One notable feature is the external wick adjuster: a small spring-loaded holder that lets you raise or lower the wick from the outside by clipping the mechanism onto the burner — an uncommon surviving detail.

Suitable for a collection of trench lamps, early 20th-century lighting, or industrial antiques, or as a decorative piece.
