This is an early version, identifiable by the absence of ventilation holes in the chimney shroud. It is also fitted with the rare, marked Auer glass.

On the tank you can find the marking K1452 with a wave symbol, also known as the Karlsruher Wellenlinie. This was the approval mark of the Karlsruhe Lightning Technology Institute (KLTI). Lanterns with this marking were tested by the KLTI and approved as vehicle lighting components.

The Sturmkappe was an innovation developed to provide even better protection against wind. For that reason, the lantern is marked “garantiert sturmsicher” (guaranteed stormproof). These lanterns are still excellent for everyday practical use.

Naturally, it shows signs of age, which only adds to the character and charm of the hurricane lantern. A wonderful addition to any collection, but also perfectly functional as atmospheric lighting in the home, garden, or while travelling.

This is the Feuerhand Baby 276 Sturmkappe, produced in Western Germany.
It features the marked Auer glass, which is much less common than the Jenaer glass.
This example dates from the 1950s/60s.
