This BAT 158 hurricane lantern was made by VEB Sturmlaternenwerk / Foron of Beierfeld, Germany, and most likely dates from the 1960s.

What makes this example rare is the marking: both sides of the fount read BAT 158, where one side would normally read Made in GDR or Germany. My guess is that this was a version built for export.

The globe is unmarked.

It burns kerosene, has been fitted with a new wick, and is in working order.

Condition is good. The red paint is original, with traces of age and use here and there.

Measurements:
Height: 25 cm (9.8 in)
Fount diameter: 11 cm (4.3 in)

Still in its own red paint, and some sixty years on it still lights.
