Large Antique Dutch Railway Tail Lamp by J.J. van Dijk – NS Train Signal Lantern with Copper Chimney

Large antique railway tail lamp / signal lantern by the Dutch manufacturer J.J. van Dijk, presented in beautiful and working condition.

J.J. van Dijk was based in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and supplied many types of railway and train lighting equipment to the Dutch Railways (N.S.).

A particularly attractive feature of this lantern is that it provides light in two directions. One of the reflectors is missing, and the remaining reflector can no longer be locked in place, although it still sits securely inside the lantern.

The lantern is in working condition and still retains its original oil reservoir. The small chimney glass was not originally present, but the current style is likely close to what would have been used, as there is limited space due to the reflector construction.

The inside has been painted white for better light reflection, while the exterior has the classic black finish. The copper chimney is a beautiful detail that gives the lantern a very distinctive and high-quality appearance.

This is a large, heavy, and impressive piece of railway history. A fantastic decorative object, especially suitable for an industrial interior, railway collection, or vintage display.
