Beautiful and heavy antique mining lamp in attractive vintage condition by the Belgian manufacturer Camille Cornil Gilly. The maker’s name is very finely marked along the rim. The lamp remains in working condition and is fitted with a glass marked Schott Gen. Jenaer.

This piece was most likely genuinely used in a mine. It is marked both on the top and front with:
CRG 70 SF and CRG 63 SF

CRG is believed to refer to Charbonnages Réunis du Gouffre, a coal mining company located in the Borinage region of Belgium. The reason for the two different numbers is unknown. “SF” may possibly refer to a specific mine shaft.

The lamp is in working condition and fitted with a new wick. It creates a wonderfully atmospheric light when used as an oil lamp, but is also highly decorative as a standalone interior piece.

A beautiful addition to a mining or antique lighting collection.
