Extremely Rare Antique Signal Lantern – FR. Weber & Co Berlin (c. 1900-1930)
This is an exceptionally rare German signal lamp, manufactured by FR. Weber & Co, Berlin, and preserved in working condition. A true collector’s item with remarkable historical value.
Key Features:
- Original design with wooden handle, copper rivets, and a copper-lined chimney interior
- Includes three custom-made colored glass inserts (red, green, blue) that fit perfectly into the rear compartment, held in place by a spring mechanism—allowing you to slide them in front of the light
- Non-original wick holder, but period-correct and fully functional
- Hanging eye on the handle for suspension; solder marks on the back suggest a former mounting bracket
Historical Background:
FR. Weber & Co was a German metalworks manufacturer active between 1890 and 1950, known for producing munitions, weapons, and oil lamps. Signal lanterns like this were commonly used for traffic signaling and railway shunting operations.
