Special Swiss hurricane lantern, Helvetia model by Egloff & Cie, in working condition but with noted imperfections.

This Helvetia hurricane lantern is not commonly encountered and remains a distinctive and attractive piece, especially due to its solid construction and the original glass lift system. It is a heavily built lantern that reflects the high manufacturing standards of early Swiss industrial production.

Please note that this lantern is not fully original. The top cap is not original and originates from a later Helvetia model. The handle should normally sit inside the chimney, and the glass is not original and slightly smaller than it should be. Despite these shortcomings, the lantern remains a special and collectible example of an early Helvetia hurricane lantern.

This lantern is a nice addition to a collection and can still be used as atmospheric lighting indoors, in the garden, or while travelling or camping.

The lantern has a height of approximately 41 cm excluding the handle. It was manufactured by Egloff & Cie and is believed to date from around 1910. The metal has not been treated against rust formation. It is fitted with a new wick and, as shown, is in working condition.
