A fantastic skater’s lantern, or mini hurricane lantern, of French origin, model “L’Hirondelle” by Carres et Hubert. This piece is in very good and fully usable condition, making it both a decorative and atmospheric small oil lamp.

Dating from the 1920s, it was advertised in 1922 as a hurricane lantern, although its compact size makes it more comparable to a skater’s lantern or “liliput” lamp. A particularly interesting feature is the top section, which can be unscrewed by twisting.

The reservoir is marked:
Lanterne Pétrole Marque & Modèle Déposé "L’Hirondelle"
The arms are stamped:
Système Bté S.G.D.G.

The arms and top are finished in black; it is unknown whether this is original, but it has been intentionally left as found.

Height (excluding handle): 17.5 cm
Production period: 1920s
