Beautiful, Miner’s Lamp – ca. 1900 – With Val St. Lambert D.S.4 Glass
This beautiful miner’s lamp from around 1900 is in exceptionally well‑preserved condition. It features a finely shaped tank and its Val St. Lambert D.S.4 glass.
The lamp is in working order: the wick holder can be raised using the small mechanism at the bottom. It appears to have seen very little use. There are two small holes in the top where a umberplate would originally have been mounted. On the underside there is also a square locking mechanism—presumably meant to block the wick movement—but it is currently fixed.
According to various sources, this type of lamp is considered a Master Hewer’s Lamp (Meesterhouwerslamp), used by mining supervisors or foremen.
Extremely atmospheric when used as a small oil lamp, but also highly decorative as an antique display piece. It also makes a wonderful and rare addition to any mining‑related or antique lighting collection.
The lamp carries no visible maker’s marks. The glass is clearly marked Val St. Lambert D.S.4.
