This hurricane lantern was made by the French manufacturer SIF, Société Industrielle de Ferblanterie, and is complete and in working order. It's the Royalux model, made for a short period from around 1950-1965.

What makes these lanterns special is the glass lift: lowering the lever raises the glass.

The cage stands out too; it's not something come across very often.

The top cap is marked Royalux, Bte S.G.D.G. Made in France.

The lantern is in very good condition and still shows some signs of age, which gives it character. The fount has not been treated against rust, so it will need some protection for prolonged outdoor use.

The globe is unmarked. A new wick has been fitted to the wick holder, and the lantern is used with pure paraffin.
