This BAT 158 Batela hurricane lantern was made by VEB Sturmlaternenwerk in Beierfeld, Germany. It is an example from the later production, made in tombac — a copper alloy. It most likely dates from the 1970s or 1980s.

The fount is marked Bat No 158 Made in GDR.

The globe is the original one and carries the marking Cristal, though it is not equally legible everywhere.

A new wick has been fitted and the lantern has been burned on pure paraffin. It is in working order.

Condition is very good.

Many of these lanterns came with a reflector; this example does not have one.
