Very special antique railway lantern / signal lamp dating from approximately 1920–1930, presented in excellent and working condition.

This beautifully built lantern features two hinged filter doors that can either be secured against the back or folded forward in front of the side glass panels. They are currently fitted with frosted glass, although originally these would most likely have contained colored signal glass such as red, orange, and/or green.

The lantern creates a wonderful atmosphere when used as an oil lamp. Due to the wide wick, it is recommended not to set the flame too high, as the lamp can produce a strong flame quickly.

A very solid and well-made example, featuring beautifully constructed closures and a robust industrial design.

These types of lanterns were used as hand lanterns and signal lamps, especially on and around railways and during shunting operations. The top handle allowed them to be easily carried during work.

A fantastic decorative industrial piece or a special addition to any railway, lantern, or transport collection.
