Antique Automobile Side Lamp with Red Rear Lens, ca. 1900–1930 – Rare Burner, Working Condition – Early Car Lighting, Automobilia
A remarkable antique automobile lamp, most likely dating from 1900–1930. The small red lens at the rear reveals where it once belonged: mounted on the side of a car or other vehicle, showing white light to the front and red to the rear.
What makes this lamp particularly interesting is the burner. It is an unusual type with a small porcelain holder used to turn up the flame, fed from a brass fuel reservoir — a construction you rarely come across.
The lamp is in excellent working condition and has clearly seen very little use in its long life. The glass is intact, and apart from a few small dents it is remarkably well preserved.
Good to know: the lamp has no stand or base, so it will need to be hung or mounted. The small crown shown in the photo is not included.
Dimensions:
Height: approx. 20 cm (7.9")
Front diameter: 13 cm (5.1")
A fine piece of early vehicle lighting for any collector of automobilia — and after more than a hundred years, it still works.
