Extremely Rare Signal Lantern by Fr. Weber & Co., Berlin – With Colored Lenses & Fully Working (c. 1900–1930)
Signal lantern by Fr. Weber & Co., Berlin, with coloured glass lenses, in working condition.
The lantern has a wooden handle, copper rivets, and a metal body. The burner and wick holder are original and functional, and the lamp can be operated from the outside.
Two metal shutters are included, for blocking the side openings.
Likely used as a signal lamp, for traffic control or railway shunting. It comes with three separate lenses:
- Two red lenses (one with full metal rim and hanging eye, one with partial rim)
- One green lens (with roughly ¾ of its original metal rim)
A spring mechanism in the rear holder holds each lens in place; they slide in front of the main opening to show the signal colour.
Fr. Weber & Co. Berlin was a German metalworks manufacturer active roughly between 1890 and 1950, producing munitions, weapons, and oil lamps. This lantern's style and construction fit the 1900–1930 period.
The handle has a hanging loop, and the back shows two solder marks, suggesting a mounting bracket may once have been attached.
The lantern shows some age-related wear. One of the small rings on a shutter plate is a later replacement.
A piece with strong historic interest, still usable as lighting indoors or out.
