What makes it special is that it is almost entirely made of steel; only the fitting around the two handles is brass. Signal lamps of this kind are usually made entirely of brass\/bronze. This probably has to do with the year of production: shortly after WW2 there was a great shortage of materials such as brass and bronze.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis type of lamp was used as a signal lamp, among other things when shunting trains; hence the coloured glasses.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe front has clear glass, the sides have white glasses, and there are two additional front glasses in red and green.
